The successful applicant will play a key role in delivering a high-quality service at the Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. The successful post holder will work within the Respiratory Team ensuring that all patients referred to the Trust by their GP with a suspected cancer diagnosis are given an appointment within two weeks. You wiil be responsible for monitoring and booking referrals for suspected cancer to ensure that patients’ appointments are booked to national and local cancer pathway targets. To work primarily independently and on own initiative with minimal supervision to carry out the duties of the post, working closely and communicating effectively with the other members of the respiratory team including consultants, CNS and operational team. There will also be a requirement to work closely with other divisions within the Trust such as Clinical Support Services and the Patient Access Team

There will be an element of cross travel between sites.

Main duties of the job

  • Booking and organising of 1st opa appointments in Lung and updating care flow and liaising with clinical team for prioritisation of appointments based on clinical need
  • Review of email upgrades and the co-ordination of any appointments
  • Updating of Somerset to reflect latest information
  • Liaising with the clinical team to co-ordinate inpatient referrals
  • Escalating capacity issues to operational and clinic team

The successful applicant will join a busy team currently comprising of Consultants, Specialist Nurses and Operations . The post holder along with the collaborative working with the rest of the team will play a pivotal role in the patient’s journey at the hospital.
