**Covering Maternity Leave**
We are currently looking for a Support Medical Secretary to work within the Surgical Department in the Breast Medical Secretarial Team.
You should have experience of good practice and systems of work within the secretarial / PA field, knowledge of Health & Safety and an understanding of confidentiality / data protection issues.
The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in the day-to-day management of a busy Medical Secretaries office.
You should already possess 4 GCSE's (grades 9 - 4 or C - A), RSA stage 2 / 3 typing / word processing (or have equivalent experience), knowledge of MS Office and be working (or willing) towards NVQ Level 3 Business/ Medical Admin or AMSPAR. The ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload is essential as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the Consultant's workload and effectively support activities with other hospital staff to ensure that an efficient service is provided.
The postholder will produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, regularly using complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription and self generated correspondence.
You will be required to respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive and challenging enquiries.
