We are currently looking for a Higher Level Medical Secretary to work within the General Surgery Department in the Surgical, Oncology and Haematology Centre.
The post holder will join a team of Medical Secretaries who organise the Consultant's workload and effectively support activities with other hospital staff to ensure that an efficient service is provided. The post holder will produce accurate clinical and general correspondence, regularly using complex and sensitive medical terminology from audio transcription and self generated correspondence. You will be required to respond to telephone calls from anxious and distressed patients, responding appropriately to contentious, sensitive and difficult enquiries.
You should have knowledge of good practice and system of work within the secretarial / PA field, knowledge of Health & Safety and an understanding of confidentiality / data protection issues.
The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in the day-to-day management of a busy Medical Secretaries office.
You should already possess 4 GCSE's (grades 9 - 4) or equivalent, RSA stage 3 typing, word processing (or have equivalent experience), knowledge of MS Office and be working towards NVQ Level 3 Business/ Medical Admin or AMSPAR. The ability to plan and prioritise a varied workload is essential as are good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of staff groups at all levels.
Please note the post is advertised for 30 hours however there may be potential for additional hours up to 37.5 hours in the future.
