The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust has, following major investment, undertaken an extensive programme of reconfiguration of its Women and Children’s services. We are seeking to appoint a full-time Trust Doctor at tier 1 (ST-1to3 equivalent) level to join our tier 1 rota March 2018 until September 2018 initially with the possibility of extending. Applications are also welcomed from those wishing to work part-time. Further extension may be possible.
The post offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience at tier 1 level in a busy district general hospital. The post holder would complement the existing tier 1 team of junior doctors and ANNPs and participate in a shift system.
The Neonatal Unit serves the ½ million catchment population, with over 5000 deliveries per annum. The Neonatal Unit is part of the Staffordshire, Shropshire and Black Country (SSBC) Newborn Network, designated as a Local Neonatal Unit. The Unit has 22 cots and delivers ~1600 intensive care/high dependency days and over 4500 special care days. Four Consultant Neonatologists and 2 General Paediatricians with neonatal interest form the tier 3 staff whilst tier 2 staffing consists of 3 ST-4+ neonatal trainees and 2 Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (ANNPs).
The purpose-built modern Neonatal Unit is situated on the upper floor of the new-build facility, adjacent to the Labour Suite and Maternity Theatres and Obstetric Wards, and with the Children’s Ward and Outpatients facility immediately below on the ground level.
Our vision is for the highest quality care, to provide an environment in which all staff, and in particular trainees, are supported and thrive, with greater delivery of care by Consultants in line with RCPCH recommendations. Although the post does not count towards paediatric run-through training programme, the postholder will be provided the same educational facilities including supervision as a speciality trainee.
