We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Obstetrician with an interest in Fetal Medicine & scanning to join a team of 26 other consultants working across the field of Obstetrics & Gynaecology in a busy District General Hospital with a level 2 Fetal Medicine scanning service. 

This post is an Obstetrics only role covering Fetal Medicine scan lists,  Antenatal clinics, and resident on calls with no non-resident shifts.  All acute services including the labour ward are based at the Princess Royal site with Antenatal clinics also provided at both the Princess Royal Hospital and Royal Shrewsbury Hospital sites.

This is a substantive post, and we would encourage you to consider taking on an additional remunerated spa role working with the extensive MDT & PROMPT training team, Fetal monitoring training team, Feto-Maternal Medicine team or work alongside our expanded Governance and Risk team.

Main duties of the job

Clinical:

  • Fetal Medicine scan lists.
  • Antenatal clinics.
  • Resident Obstetric on calls.
  • No non-resident shifts.
  • Further SPA roles can be decided once appointed with roles such as Fetal monitoring lead, MDT & PROMPT training or Governance & Risk available should you wish.
  • To develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients.
  • To have excellent team-working skills with the abilities and professional attitude to work well in a multi-professional team.
  • To deliver clinical and quality targets agreed both nationally and locally with clinical teams and commissioners.
  • To follow patients throughout their clinical pathways.

Both hospitals provide a wide range of  acute hospital services including accident & emergency, outpatients, diagnostics, inpatient medical care and critical care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and their Clinical Director and consultant colleagues, on behalf of the Medical Director within 3 months of starting in post. A full-time job plan is based on a 10 PA working week.
