If your answer is yes to any of the above, we have an exciting opportunity available within our Pharmacy department at The Princess Royal Hospital (PRH), Telford, for a specialist clinical Pharmacist working within our OPAT Service. This is a brand new role within our Trust where we are looking to strengthen the OPAT service through the formation of a strong clinical Pharmacy team at the pivotal point in the patient’s journey. We are seeking to complete this team by recruiting a motivated, innovative, clinically driven Pharmacist who wants to make a difference. 

Applicants for the specialist role must be suitably qualified, as appropriate to the post. A postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy is essential.  This is a prescribing role and those candidates who are not currently an independent prescriber will be supported and funded to undertake the qualification.

This post may be offered under Annex 21 AfC Terms & Conditions or as a progressional post, subject to experience, competency and suitability.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Participate in antimicrobial stewardship and OPAT ward rounds.
  • Support the development and delivery of a high quality, safe, innovative advanced clinical service to Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) and Complex Oral Antimicrobial Therapy (COpAT).
  • Carry out duties in Clinical Pharmacy Services at ward and department level. Work closely with consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of medicines with a specific focus in OPAT and Antimicrobials.
  • Work as an independent prescriber to optimise medicine regimes for patients with specific focus on OPAT and antimicrobials.
  • Support audit and research within the teams and promote the use of Quality Improvement (QI) methodology at all opportunities.
  • Act as a role model for and be responsible for developing Education and Training with a specific focus in OPAT and antimicrobials for any Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician working within the department.
