We are delighted to offer an exciting Healthcare Science Apprenticeship in Biomedical Sciences - Blood Sciences, in conjunction with Staffordshire University. This post is based in the Blood Sciences department at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, with rotation to the Princess Royal Hospital.
The level 6 apprenticeship involves the undertaking of a BSc (Hons) Healthcare Science degree program in Blood Sciences over a 4 year period. The programme is delivered using a variety of methods, primarily a blend of online and workplace learning together with study days based within the Science Centre at the Stoke-on-Trent campus. The apprenticeship is assessed by a range of assessment methods including portfolio course work, workplace competency assessments, assignments and exams. Apprentices achieve the BSc (Hons) in Healthcare that includes an integrated End Point Assessment to complete the apprenticeship. Apprentices are also expected to complete the IBMS Registration Portfolio, which confers eligibility to apply for registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
Entry Requirements: 112 UCAS points
3 A-levels – Grades BBC, or A*CD including Biology or BTEC Extended Diploma – Grades DMM, including relevant Biology Modules or equivalent qualifications
Plus
GCSE English and Maths Grades A-C
IELTS at 7.0 with no element below 6.5 (English as a second language requirement)
Applicants who do not fully meet the above academic criteria but have sufficient relevant experience in the workplace will be considered on an individual basis; provided they have undertaken some Level 3 study.

The Blood Sciences department is equipped with a Roche Cobas 8000 Tracked System including pre and post analytical modules, Sysmex XN and CS2500 coagulation analysers with IH1000 and Diamed Gelstations in our Blood Transfusion Department. There is also a well equiped manual section for protein analysis and more specialist biochemistry testing. The department has full accreditation and is an approved IBMS/HCPC training laboratory. The laboratory has many years of experience in supporting staff achieve HCPC Registration and Specialist Diplomas.

Salary will be based upon Agenda for Change Band 5 annex 21:
60% of £28,746 Year 1
65% of £28,746 Year 2
70% of £28,746 Year 3
75% of £28,746 Year 4 until successful graduation
This position will lead onto a full substantive post within the department upon successful graduation.
