Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, autonomous and highly motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join the Speech and Language Therapy Inpatient service at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.  This post will be a rotational post, between 3 settings; the acute inpatient SLT teams at both of our main acute hospitals (The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford and The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital) and the inpatient Stroke Team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. 

Experience of working with adults with acquired disorders of communication and swallowing is desired but not essential.  Dysphagia training can be provided as needed.

Main duties of the job

To assess, diagnose/interpret and manage own caseload of complex patients as an autonomous practitioner in accordance with Professional Code of Conduct and Health and Care Professions Council Regulations.

To work under the supervision and guidance of senior Therapists.

The post holder will work in close co-operation with colleagues within all Care Groups to deliver a cohesive service that is led by user need ensuring high quality of patient care, optimal patient flow and safe timely discharge.

Based in picturesque Shropshire, minutes from the M54 and close to Birmingham, you will initially be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH), working within the acute inpatient SLT team.  Our team is small but very friendly and supportive.

As a team we are able to provide excellent line management and peer support, working closely together with regular team meetings, clinical supervision and opportunities for continuing professional development.

The Therapy department are working towards being at the forefront of innovation in leading the way by undertaking development and service evaluation utilising the Virginia Mason Institute (VMI) methodology in Lean practices as the Trust is one of only 5 Trust's in England to be affiliated with the VMI based in Seattle, USA.
