An opportunity has arisen for experienced and enthusiastic individuals to join our Phlebotomy Team at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital in Shrewsbury and Whitchurch Community Hospital working on Wards, Outpatients and at Surgeries in the local area.
We are advertising for one part time position of 25 hours per week, working shifts in blocks of 5 hours over 7 days. This will include weekends and bank holidays worked on a rotational basis.
The successful candidates must have experience as a Phlebotomist, should have excellent communication skills, be able to work under pressure with the ability to record data accurately, have an approachable nature and the ability to fulfil the travel requirements. Previous experience working as a supervisor is essential.
Full and extensive departmental training will be given. Shifts will vary according to service needs so flexibility is important.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role will include;
Collection of blood samples by arm venepuncture in any of the above settings.
Collection of samples using the coaguchek equipment.
Undertake phlebotomy that requires special skill and experience from patients 1 year and over
Recording and labelling of samples.
Collection and recording of relevant statistics.
Delivery of samples to the laboratory: generally by hand, via the hospital vacuum air tube system, by portering staff and transport systems.

They have many years of experience in blood collection and cover in patients and outpatients across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin. As of April 2021 there are 512,966 patients in the area. In 2019-2020 The Phlebotomy Team at SaTH took blood samples from 279,334 patients.
