The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust are looking for a dynamic, caring and enthusiastic leader to join our Breast Imaging team.

The successful applicant will be working closely with other members of the Radiology leadership team across our two hospital sites to deliver a quality, patient-focused service.  Breast Imaging is a vibrant team, continually looking for ways to develop innovative ideas and ways of working, ensuring our services continue to match the rapid pace of growth in diagnostic advances.  We actively support role extension and have introduced new roles into our departments to help meet the demands of the service in light of the workforce crisis within Radiology and we are looking to continue to build a service that is modelled around evolving healthcare delivery.

This role requires values-based leadership of a large multidisciplinary team of Radiographers and Assistant Practitioners, Imaging Department Assistants, Breast Care Nurses and Admin & Clerical.  The individual will also be a key contributor to the overall operational, workforce and finance performance and strategy of the department, working closely with our radiology leaders and wider colleagues.  The Trust offers both symptomatic and screening services to Shropshire and the surrounding area with excellent outcome measures.

If you are looking for new opportunities and challenges in a management role then this post could be for you.  You will need to demonstrate an excellent working knowledge of the National Breast Screening Programme; effective leadership skills with experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams; effective communication; be able to interpret and present performance and business data; be able to advise senior managers of risks and issues; and solve operational and day to day management issues using previous experience and own initiative.  You will need to have a strong collaborative approach and the ability to engage service users, partners, commissioners and other key stakeholders.

You will be joining us at an incredibly exciting time as, having recently being awarded more than £300 million government funding, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is about to undergo a major transformation as part of our sustainable services programme.  This will lead to breast imaging and surgery being co-located at one of the two hospital sites in a purpose built breast services department. This will present an opportunity for the post-holder to take a leading role in the planning, design and development of the new department.

Due to the nature of the work, mammography posts have a gender protected character. This is a genuine occupational requirement and as a result this post is exempt under Schedule 9; Part1 of the Equality Act 2010 and, therefore, only female applicants should apply.

The post holder will participate in the Trust’s On Call Manager rota.

The well-being of our staff is of the upmost importance to us.  If you are offered a role at our Trust, and fall into the increased and higher risk categories as set out by Public Health England (PHE) and NHSI/E, your line manager will complete an risk assessment with you.  This will be completed in conjunction with the latest guidance from Public Health England in relation to Covid-19.
