Due to retirement, we have an exciting opportunity within our technical team of 8. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Advanced Orthodontic Technician to work in a multi-disciplined team across our 2 sites, supporting 3 Orthodontic Consultants and their clinical teams.  The modern fully equipped laboratories offer 3D surgical planning and printing,   comprehensive clinical photography and full technical and clinical service to the trust and external users.

You must be GDC registered with proven post registration experience of Orthodontic appliance production. The successful applicant will have comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of specialised equipment and machinery. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure and to meet agreed deadlines is essential.

Main duties of the job

To act as Lead Technician in Orthodontics and be responsible for the production of all types of Orthodontic appliances and be technical authority / advisor, planning and organising all Orthodontic output in the SATH Maxillofacial and Orthodontic Laboratories.

Maintain the full technical service to the clinicians and oversee the day to day running of the Orthodontic Laboratory at The Princess Royal Hospital.

Liaise with the consultants and other clinical staff regarding patients treatment planning, anatomical anomalies and technical requirements.

To take clinical photographs using digital photographic equipment of all departmental patients, archive and categorise all images for patient records and audit purposes.

We are a diverse and dynamic team, with a large skill mix.  Compiled of a Maxillofacial Prosthetist, Specialist Orthodontic Technician, Lead Restorative Technician / Maxillofacial Prosthetic Assistant, Lead Orthodontic Technician, 2 Dental Technicians, Associate Dental Technician and administrative support working mainly at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.  We have an additional laboratory at The Princess Royal Hospital which will be staffed dependent on clinical demand.  

As a Department we have managed to build an excellent rapport with a number of users, within the trust and externally.  We provide work to many other trusts, and ensure we are developing ideas and growing the service we provide.  It is important  the successful candidate has the enthusiasm to help develop the laboratory further.
