Preregistration Trainee Pharmacist

We are a large, friendly department comprising of over 120 staff spread across the two main sites at the Trust.  You will be supported by the team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support staff who are all routinely involved in developing our trainees to the required standard.

We expect to recruit 2 preregistration trainees based at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford (PRH) and 2 at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH). Each trainee will have their own tutor and can choose a mentor from within the department. The training programme is accredited by General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and we have a strong record of successful trainees completing the registration process. Once registered, we have a good history of retaining our trainees through the diploma years.  In fact, nearly 40% of our pharmacists were preregistration trainees with us.

During the preregistration training period, trainees will work through the GPhC performance standards and assessment syllabus by working with colleagues in all of the areas visited by pharmacy staff. Within the pharmacy departments this includes dispensary (dispensing, checking and counselling), distribution and answering questions from healthcare professionals and patients about medicines with appropriate supervision.  Outside the pharmacy you will work alongside colleagues in the ward environment in medicine (acute medicine, cardiology, care of the elderly, respiratory, renal and gastroenterology), surgery (surgical assessment and other surgical specialties vary according to site) and orthopaedic surgery.  In the ward setting you will be involved in medicines reconciliation and optimisation with a view to achieving good outcomes for the patient and facilitating a smooth discharge.

We are recruiting now for starters in August 2019!!! Fill in the contact form below to enquire about joining The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital, or coming to our open day on 17th July.
