We have an exciting opportunity to add to our fantastic team as a Band 5 nurse to join, full-time.

This post is funded for 3 years with the possibility of extended funding beyond then.  The post is based at The Shrewsbury Hospital but at times, the postholder may need to see Oncology/ Haematology patients at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.

The postholder will support oncology and haematology patients in trials but also may be asked to support the Generic Research Team at both The Royal Shrewsbury Hosptial and The Princess Royal Hospital sites.  The Research and Innovation / Clinical Trials Department supports participation in multi-centre research across a wide range of specialties with a well-established oncology and haematology trial portfolio.  This post is to support the Band 6 research nurses and research radiographers as well as support the Band 7 team leader.

We are looking for a hardworking, flexible and self-motivated nurse with an eye for detail and a real love of learning.  You need to have some recent experience nursing patients with a cancer or haematological malignancy and be sensitive to their needs.  You must have an awareness of current oncology and/ or haematology treatment options and be able to demonstrate a significant interest in clinical research, but training will be given.  You need to have, or be willing to learn, venepuncture skills.

You must be an excellent communicator, computer literate and able to work within a team without direct supervision whilst knowing your own limitations.  You need to be adaptable and work both clinically but also be willing to collect and enter vital data for the current research projects.  You need the ability to organise, prioritise and co-ordinate your work.  A proven record of personal professional development is essential to show you have the desire and ability to acquire and apply new knowledge essential for the role on an ongoing basis.
