We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Nurse to join our Multiple Sclerosis team. Working closely with colleagues, the successful applicant can anticipate a full and active role in chronic disease management by delivering patient care post diagnosis.
This care will encompass general support, counselling and education, symptom assessment and management, and support and monitoring of disease modifying therapy. Whilst experience in the management and support of patients with MS is desirable, development and training in this post will be provided (including that required for the independent nurse prescribing qualification) so applicants with limited MS experience are also encouraged to apply as we would be keen to provide this role as a developmental Band 6 for the right candidate.
The Trust comprises of The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, and is committed to providing a high quality, accessible and equitable Neurology service across both Hospitals with strong links and working relationships with community providers. Whilst the post holders will be based at The Princess Royal Hospital, they may also be required to work at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. The Trust serves the 600,000 people living in Shropshire and mid-Powys.
The Neurology Department undertakes general Neurology clinics as well as specialist clinics in Multiple Sclerosis, Headache, First Fit and botulinum toxin. In addition to the Consultants, Specialty Doctor and Specialist Nurses that make up the MS team, the Neurology service also employs Specialist Nurses/Therapists in Epilepsy, MND, Parkinson’s disease and Spasticity. The Trust is a teaching Hospital allied to Keele University Medical School and provides neurology teaching for 4th year Medical Students.
The Trust is proud to have been selected, through a highly competitive national process, to partner with the Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle which is widely regarded as one of the safest Hospitals in the World. This partnership will see Doctors, Nurses and Allied Health Professionals working together with colleagues from Virginia Mason and other Trusts to transform Healthcare at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust and share our learning across the Country.
