An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month secondment for the role of Department Manager in Ophthalmology at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital.  The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate continuing professional development relevant to the specialty with proven experience of working in a Band 6 post within an Outpatient setting.

The role of the Department Manager provides strong clinical leadership to the whole team whilst being a role model and a champion in clinical excellence.  The successful candidate will lead and manage a clinical team whilst delivering the highest quality evidence based care and promoting effective clinical risk management. They must also proactively and manage departmental safety issues including risk in accordance with regulation whilst embedding a safe working environment compliant with all policies and procedures

The Department Manager will be expected to champion the Trust values whilst acting as a professional role model, leading, coaching and mentoring staff promoting the adoption of evidence based practice, innovation and culture of openness demonstrating excellent communication skills.

The successful candidate must play a lead role in the on-going development of ophthalmic services within the Trust.  

We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic and a highly organised individual who can respond appropriately to and deal with the many conflicting priorities of the Outpatient environment whilst actively coordinating and monitoring clinical activities to ensure efficient and effective utilisation of resources.  You will be required to provide continuity in dealing with and overseeing operational management issues on a daily basis whilst being fully supported by the Matron for the department.
