Consultant Radiologist (Interventional)

Are you looking for an interesting and rewarding job with fantastic work life balance in a stunningly beautiful rural location within easy reach of the West Midlands conurbation?  We would like to welcome you to join our friendly, supportive, forward thinking team of 21 existing Consultants (17 WTE).

As a result of significant capital investment, we have recently undergone some exciting changes in the Imaging departments on both of our Hospital sites: installation of three Siemens MRI scanners in 2018/19; a Canon 360 slice CT scanner in 2019; a £7 million general Radiology equipment replacement programme during 2019-2021 including two Philips Azurion to replace existing Interventional and Cardiac Catheter suites, 2 general fluoroscopy rooms, 8 general x-ray rooms and 4 mobile X-ray units. In 2021 we will complete our imaging upgrade with the installation of a second Canon CT scanner and the building of a new Imaging “pod” housing two additional Siemens scanners - one MRI and one CT – to provide a purpose-built Out-Patient scanning facility.

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust provides clinical services to the population of Shropshire and mid-Wales. A new Women’s and Children’s Centre opened at Telford in September 2014 and there is a dedicated Cancer and Haematology Centre at Shrewsbury. There has been centralisation of specialties such as Surgery, Stroke, and Cardiac as well as Interventional Radiology to improve services.

As part of the Hospital Transformation Programme, funding in excess of £300 million has been secured to transform clinical services within Shropshire. This will see one of our Hospitals becoming an acute, trauma centre and the other a planned care unit to support the provision of excellent quality clinical services for all our patients within an appropriate setting.

Flexible working is provided within a defined overall workload and a general on-call commitment is required.  The overnight on call is outsourced to an external provider (from 8.30pm weekdays & 5.30pm weekends & Bank Holidays).
