If so we are currently looking to recruit a proactive, enthusiastic and motivated individual with experience, supporting people with cancer into the role of Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Assistant Manager. The role will be primarily based within the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, but will require cover of the Information Centre at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury when necessary to ensure that both centres are accessible to people for timely information and support.
Both centres run a drop in service so that people affected by cancer can access information, support and advice at a time that suits them. You will provide practical advice, emotional support and signposting to patients and carers regarding their concerns; these can be related to the impact of a cancer diagnosis, treatment or disease progression. With your advanced communication skills, you will empower service users to make informed choices about their health and health care and also refer onto other relevant agencies as required. The post holder will also be responsible for the general day to day operation of the centre as well supervising and supporting volunteers.
Applicants should have previous experience of working in a health or social care setting and the successful candidate must have excellent communication/ customer care skills. Evidence that you can support people with cancer, their relatives and friends through distressing emotional situations would be advantageous.
