We are looking to recruit a full time Medical Laboratory Assistant Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the specimen reception team, based at The Princess Royal Hospital. 

The role of a Medical Laboratory Assistant is varied and involves supporting the scientific staff (Biomedical Scientists) in the receipt, data entry and pre-analytic preparation of patient samples, preparing chemical and staining solutions, maintaining stocks of consumable items, disposal of chemical and/or biological waste, and maintaining and decontamination of complex laboratory equipment and as such is a key role in supporting a diagnostic service.

Band 2, depending on experience and previous NHS employment.

As part of your role you will be required to participate in the out of hours working rotas of the department, - including evenings, weekends and Bank/Public holidays, according to service need.  Core working hours will be from 09:00 to 17:30 hours; with approximately 1 late shift 13:00 to 21:00 per week. You will be required to work approximately 1 in 4 weekend shifts (claimed as Overtime or Lieu time) and occasional public holidays.

We want to employ passionate and self-motivated individuals, who have an organised approach, with good attention to detail and who can remain calm in stressful situations. You will need well developed communication and observation skills and should enjoy working as part of a team.

Previous experience in an NHS clinical laboratory or in analytical techniques would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be provided. A good level of secondary education is required with English, Maths and Science to GSCE (Grade A-C).
