We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Paediatric Consultant to support this expanding department to start from March 2020. The successful applicant will join a productive team of 18 consultants. The post holder will complement the current team, and will ensure we have adequate ward cover and general paediatric clinics. The post will provide Consultant cover to the main in-patient unit at the Princess Royal Hospital with Consultant led ward rounds. It also includes non-resident general paediatric consultant support out of hours.
Candidates for this role must have full GMC registration with a licence to practices and is desirable that you have a CCT in paediatrics.
Our vision is for self-fulfilment of all members of the team, including trainees, while being advocates to children & families, to provide excellent and safe care, ensuring patient well-being, enabling us to be proud of the care we deliver.
The Paediatric department within the trust operates in two hospitals. Our inpatient care is situated at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford with a Medical day case unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury. Both hospitals operate outpatient clinics in addition to outreach clinics in nearby community hospitals. The Paediatric department supports not only the single largest Paediatric ward for the County – 36 beds, with specialist high-dependency and oncology areas, but also a Children’s Assessment/Short-Stay 8-bedded unit at the Princess Royal Hospital and a Paediatric Medical Day case Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital which are designed to facilitate Hospital admission avoidance. There are separate Neonatal and Paediatric Consultant rotas. The post holder will not be covering the neonatal unit.

We have been building the foundations of a better future through our work with Virginia Mason and our own transforming care institute (TCI). We have introduced a leadership academy with more opportunities for development so all our leaders support, coach and perform at the highest levels, celebrate the hard work of our staff and recognise the wonderful improvements that are being made each and every day. This is a vital stepping stone to ensure we are equipped for our better future and realising our vision of providing the safest and kindest care for our patients. Leadership is about supporting teams to be the best they can be. As we move forward together it is vital all our teams understand their important role in delivering this brighter future for everyone.
Shropshire is a beautiful county located between the West Midlands and North Wales. Whilst rural and home to the Shropshire Hills it is anything but sleepy. The county is bustling with idyllic towns including Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Bridgnorth and Ludlow, with plenty to do regardless of your interests. The location gives an excellent opportunity for good work life balance.
We are ideally located between the north and the south making travelling around the UK extremely easy. As well as being only a short distance from major cities and busy transport links including Birmingham airport, our county also borders with beautiful north Wales which is abundant in outdoor activities, brilliant beaches, and thrilling scenery.
