We are looking for a highly motivated mammographer to train as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Breast Imaging. This will require the successful candidate to complete a Masters qualification which includes all clinical components of breast imaging – image interpretation, ultrasound, interventional techniques. On successful completion of this training programme, the post-holder will progress to the position of Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Band 8a.

You will be working in an environment that supports and promotes the development of your skills and knowledge to make you an autonomous critical thinker who can demonstrate safe, competent clinical decision-making and expert care across the four core domains of advanced practice. As a senior member of the team, you will support the delivery of policy and procedures, contribute to the development of breast service requirements to meet advancing and increasing service demands and provide innovative leadership as required.

As a member of the breast imaging team you will provide a professional service of the highest quality in line with NHSBSP standards and guidelines for screening clients and symptomatic patients across all clinical areas within the Trust. You will also work closely with colleagues of the wider multidisciplinary breast team to ensure patients receive high quality, timely and clinically appropriate care and treatment, and you will actively participate in breast MDT meetings.

Role extension is well-established within our department. Our team consists of a consultant radiographer, advanced practitioners, senior radiographers and assistant practitioners and we are currently in the process of expanding our workforce across all of these roles.

We provide a symptomatic breast service on both of our clinical sites at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury, and the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, and you will be required to work flexibly to cover all clinical duties.

As you progress you will assume responsibility for managing your own clinical workload and will be required to actively participate in MDT meetings. You will be involved in training and education of the breast imaging team and wider clinical colleagues and will undertake PERFORMS in line with NHSBSP requirements. You will be expected to initiate and conduct audit, contribute to research within the field of breast imaging and monitor departmental clinical practice in line with recommendations for best practice to ensure an excellent quality of service to both our patients and the Trust.

You will be joining us at an incredibly exciting time as, having recently being awarded £312 million government funding, Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust is about to undergo a major transformation as part of our sustainable services programme. This will lead to breast imaging and surgery being co-located at one of the two hospital sites in a purpose built breast services department.
