Face of SaTH: Hezron Ottey - Emergency Department Staff Nurse

Today’s Face of SaTH is an Emergency Department Staff Nurse Hezron Ottey, who is based in A&E at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

He said: “I've been with the Trust for four years and in my current role for three-and-a-half years. The fact that I can make a big difference to someone's life each day when they are at their most vulnerable and in sometimes critical condition drives me to work each day.

I see my role as more than a job: it's a lifestyle, that fuels my passion for the job each day. I’m 39 years old, live in Telford and am married. We have two children of our own and we also foster some children. I live a very spiritual life as a Christian, I engage in health promotion within the community coordinating and arranging health emphasis days in which I facilitate a variety of services and organisations such as the British Heart Foundation, Stroke Society, local GPs, nurses and other health professionals and volunteers in the local community to name a few so that the public have access to these services at the same time. This has given me the opportunity to work closely with the local authority on matters relating to health in the community.

I am a vegan and I try to stay fit by regular exercise at my local gym. I also feature fairly regularly on BBC Radio Shropshire where I review the various tabloids. I am currently pursuing my Masters in Public Health.”
