Elaine Wales has been a Ward Clerk for 13 ½ years at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. Her days are very varied, from admitting patients to discharging them.

Our Ward Clerks work in a number of areas around the hospital and perform a range of duties which include chasing up reports, ordering stationery, and handling calls to the ward. Our Ward Clerks needs to be highly accurate, work well on computers and have a friendly disposition as they are often the first person to greet anyone entering a ward. Good communication skills are essential for this role.

As with most NHS jobs, our Ward Clerks are encouraged to take future study to develop their skills and careers further.

Ward Clerk’s work under the supervision and guidance of their Ward Manager, Ward Sister or Charge Nurse and alongside the Staff Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, Consultants and other NHS clinical support and non-clinical staff.
